SΑΝΤΟRΙΝΙ

THE MAGICAL VOLCANO ISLAND

Santorini is simply unique. It is one of the most photographed and well-known landscapes in Greece. Cycladic island with the most extraordinary geology in the Aegean, because of its volcanicity. It provides endless hours of romance as you gaze at the caldera view.

A FEW WORDS ABOUT SANTORINI

According to legend, this amazing place is a part of the legendary sunken Atlantis, where the volcanic beaches of Perissa and Akrotiri resorts with black and red sand, compete with designer hotels in the settlements of Imerovigli and Fira with panoramic views of Caldera. This is an island with something for everyone: couples and newlyweds who want to escape to a romantic hideaway, loners, lovers of archeology, adventures and sophisticates.

The beaches are peculiar, have been created by the volcano, and have their own geological interest, as well as red or black sand.

The island can be conditionally divided into two sides. The western side is the most prestigious, romantic and expensive rocky part with the settlements of Fira, Imerovigli and Oia with panoramic views of Caldera. The eastern side is a more democratic, with beach resorts of Kamari, Perissa and Akrotiri with unique beaches with black and red sand. Among tourists who choose Santorini, accommodation is popular in both parts of the island or combination of both, for example, to spend a few days in the towns of Imerovigli or Fira, and then move for a few days in one of the resorts of Kamari or Perissa.

VISIT WHILE IN SANTORINI

Fira

Fira (or Hora), the capital of Santorini, is built on the rim of the caldera. Here one can find buildings from different epochs, churches including St.Minas chapel – the symbol of the island, the Archaeological and Prehistoric Museum of Fira, business centers, shops, restaurants and the most prestigious hotels, famous for their exclusivity and impressive panoramas. Firostefani is an extended village on the edge of Fira.

Imerovigli

Imerovigli is the highest spot on the caldera and the islanders used it as an early-warning system against pirate attacks. Here you’ll find Skaros rock with fragments of the Venetian castle, white chapel of the Panagia Theoskepasti and lots of boutique hotels with terraces with spectacular views of caldera.

Oia

Oia is the island’s most beautiful village but also the one most geared to tourism. Its winding streets, with charming toy white houses with a blue roof, narrow lanes paved with marble, colorful mills, exclusive hotels, carved into black rocks. A paradise for romantics and honeymooners, where one can admire Caldera from the ruins of a Venetian fortress during the day, and in the evenings – the world- famous sunsets.

Akrotiri

At Akrotiri, the archeologists unearthed an abandoned city with well-preserved buildings, flagstone-paved streets, multi-storey houses and workshops and finally works of art – all from the Minoan era.  The discoveries indicate that the inhabitants abandoned their town before the volcano erupted. This an archaeological site that could and should be visited. Akrotiri is also called the village, which in recent years has been developing rapidly and where new hotels are constantly opening with a view of Caldera.

Kamari

Kamari is the most famous and popular beach resort in the south-eastern part of island with organized beaches and crystal clear water. There are lots of restaurants, taverns, discotheques, water sports centers, hotels, apartments and clubs for any budget.

Perissa

Perissa is a popular resort on the east coast of the island for a relaxing holiday. Beach with black volcanic sand and pebbles. Hotels, taverns and shops, surrounded by eucalyptus groves.
